The web-based learning management system ILIAS is available as Open Source software under the GNU General Public License (GPL). Universities, educational institutions and every interested person may use the system free of charge and contribute to its further development.

ILIAS has initially been developed in the VIRTUS project of the Faculty of Economics, Business Administration and Social Sciences at the University of Cologne. As a client-server system ILIAS allows users to create, edit and publish course units in an integrated system with their normal web browsers

Voice-Over-Internet Protocol

Internet Voice, also known as Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP), is a technology that allows you to make telephone calls using a broadband Internet connection instead of a regular (or analog) phone line. Some services using VoIP may only allow you to call other people using the same service, but others may allow you to call anyone who has a telephone number - including local, long distance, mobile, and international numbers. Also, while some services only work over your computer or a special VoIP phone, other services allow you to use a traditional phone through an adaptor.

Open Source VLE - CHEF Information Site
CHEF Information Site: "CHEF Initiative

The CompreHensive collaborativE Framework (CHEF) initiative has as its goal, the development of a flexible environment for supporting distance learning and collaborative work, and doing research on distance learning and collaborative work. This project is staffed by University of Michigan School of Information and Media Union staff. We are working closely with and are contributing to the OKI reference architecture, and are collaborating with other groups interested in open source collaboration standards. Communities targeted for CHEF use include those involved in the scholarly activities of teaching, learning and research at the University of Michigan, and their students and colleagues involved in teaching, learning and research that are outside of the Michigan community. "

Open Source VLE - CHEF 1.2

Welcome to CHEF 1.2! Source for this version will be released shortly.

CHEF 1.1.12 software is released and available at the CHEF site here. Once again, we skipped a few versions (this is the successor to 1.1.09).

The Community site is open. This is a place to share your CHEF experience, ask questions, announce your CHEF related news, etc. You can join this site with the "access" role, which gives you the ability to chat, send and read email, and read most other resources. To gain full member access to the site contact ggolden@umich.edu. You can send email to other the site participants at community@chefproject.org.

Try out the "Playground" site - here you can play with some of the CHEF tools.
